CBD for DOGS?!

Without a doubt, CBD is quickly becoming a trend in the vitamin and supplement world; it’s even popping up in skincare circles as a featured ingredient. It’s no different in the pet world, as more and more frequently tags of “CBD oil!” and “100% Hemp!” are appearing on labels. Any time something becomes a buzzword, however, there is cause for concern as hype often overshadows actual benefits.

What is CBD?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a compound found in cannabis and hemp. The key difference is that true CBD does not contain delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the compound that gives marijuana its psychoactive properties. In fact, most CBD products are derived from hemp and not from marijuana.

How Does CBD Interact with Dogs?

Currently, there is very little formal research to rely on regarding the full effects of CBD on canines. However, cannabinoids interact with the endocannabinoid receptors of mammals located in the central and peripheral nervous systems, which can help maintain balance in various physical systems.

Is CBD Right for My Dog?

Every case is different!
Despite being widely received by many as completely safe, the risks of using CBD for dogs have not yet been fully researched by the FDA. Any medication or supplement carries the risk of a reaction. As with any new treatment, it is always advisable to check with your veterinarian first, start out with small amounts, and closely monitor the effects.
